AND THE WINNERS ARE......

Greetings fellow Roughriders,

Sal and Rochelle won their contests on Monday April 14th and will be going on to represent our club at the District level! Sal was the winner of the International Speech Contest and Rochelle won the Evaluation contest. Winning these contests is a great tribute tot he club and the support we to our speakers. Please join me in congratulating them! The next level of competition will be taking place on May 17th and 18th at the Woodbridge, NJ Hilton. We will be arranging transportation for those who might want to attend. Please let me know if you might be interested.

We are going to the Division! Congratulations to Sal and Rochelle!

Another activity of note was the two visits of The Computer School Debating Team. The boys and girls from Jerry’s son’s public school participated with enthusiasm and one of the boys even took home a table topics ribbon.  Thanks to all of you, especially those who stepped up at the last minute to make the meeting such a success.

Jerry received this note from the school’s headmaster:

I am thrilled that this enterprise has worked out so well.  You have provided a highly valuable experience for these students, one that I am sure they will proudly remember far into the future.  It is wonderful to hear that our students were up to the task.   . . . [Y]ou did more for this student’s self-esteem than you know.  Your thoughtfulness in putting this together serves as a model for how parents can enrich the school experience of young adolescents. 

On behalf of the entire CS community, I would like to offer my most heartfelt thanks to you and to Toastmasters for providing this unique opportunity for our debate team members.  We will certainly take you up on your invitation to continue this partnership in the future

Welcome To S.E.C. Roughriders

A Toastmasters International Club

Welcome,

Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings. Prepare to be inspired at the award-winning SEC Roughriders Toastmasters club. Members learn to craft informative, creative, and entertaining speeches. Although members vary in age, profession, and skill level, they share a desire to improve their public speaking ability and confidence.

The club promotes a professional yet nurturing atmosphere with each meeting following a consistent agenda. First, attendees are asked a series of questions to help hone their impromptu speaking skills. Next, a set of 3 or 4 members present prepared speeches. The presentations are then assessed by evaluators, and a Master Evaluator reviews the meeting as a whole. The set format and required business attire give members a chance to develop their speaking skills in a safe environment.

Meetings: Every Thursday except holidays, 12:00 lunch, speakers 12:30-2pm at the New York City Bar Association Building at 42 West 44th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, main floor. There is a $15 fee to help offset the cost of buffet lunch and room.
